What is a Platform Elevator?

An L-shaped platform elevator is a system that moves a platform from one level to another in a safe and efficient manner. KALEA platform elevators are installed in elevator shafts but can also be installed within existing brick shafts or built in-site. The platform moves along guides and a screw and is driven by an electric motor. This type of elevator can serve up to 6 floors and move up to 65 feet.

L-shaped platform elevators are under European Machine Directive 2006/42/EC And it must meet several requirements. For example, this type of lift has a maximum speed of 0.5 feet per second (0.15 meters/second). In-house control of an open platform lift requires a press and hold to operate in the European market, while external control is via an automatic drive.

Platform lifts are very popular for several reasons. Some of the main advantages over hydraulic lifts are that they do not require a machine room, lift pit, or overhead machinery. Therefore, installing a platform lift requires minimal structural modifications, resulting in significant cost savings. The intelligent structure of the lift platform allows for the use of 5-sided tempered laminated glass. This type of glass can be used in sub-zero temperatures, withstand strong winds and storms (as seen in European countries). When broken or cracked, the glass shards do not scatter; they remain bonded together, significantly reducing the risk of injury. Therefore, it is superior and more durable.

Disadvantages of platform elevators:

Unfamiliarity with this new elevator system, which may not be as widespread in Thailand as passenger car elevators. Since most buildings still use passenger car elevators, the platform screw system is still relatively new in Thailand.
